Nothing comes from nothing. We all have to put effort in to get reward out.
As a professional rugby player I recognise the importance of continuous learning. When a player's sporting career ends, if they have continued to learn they will be ready to take on new career challenges.
Keep learning, keep achieving and keep making a real difference to yourself, your family and your communities.
To be successful in sport and get the most out of life you have to put in the effort and hard work. But I think a lot of people forget that learning doesn't have to be a chore it can be a lot of fun. It's vital to choose something that you're interested in and passionate about that way you'll get the most out of it. Learning helps to improve your self-esteem and helps you make new friends within your community. I would encourage people to learn new skills and keep on learning throughout their life.
Adult Learners’ Week gives people a fantastic opportunity to get together and have a go at something new. The Inspire Adult Learners’ Awards reward individuals that have had the courage and determination to pursue their learning further, to better themselves and their communities. Having made the transition myself from sportsman to TV presenter and commentator, I understand how hard it is to try something totally different but do recognise that all the hard work does pay off in the end. Well done to everyone who has taken up the challenge.
Congratulations to you all on your achievements and good luck alsoto the many Learning Festival groups across Wales, some of whom are present tonight, who will be putting on activities and free taster sessions during Adult Learners' Week next week. These sessions aim to get more new learners, just like you, back into learning and form the backbone to the whole campaign. On behalf of NIACE Dysgu Cymru, thank you for your teamwork and continuing commitment to adult learning.
Our team at Cardiff City has travelled a long way this season, we are on a journey that will, we hope, bring great rewards this Saturday in the FA Cup Final. We have done it by building a team spirit in which every player has the confidence and the belief in his abilities and is not afraid to learn and develop new skills.
We are proud to support Adult Learners’ Week in Wales, because it is all about encouraging similar journeys – learning journeys which open doors and raise aspirations. We wish every Inspire Award Winner a fantastic night of celebration. Don’t stop learning, you're all an inspiration.
